Query Formulation

• Since users are not generally familiar with CBIR systems, or specifically familiar with how documents have been represented in a given system – e.g., has the flag of the United States of America been represented as “red, white, and blue” or “color rectangle with stars and bars,” or “American flag,” etc.) – they are uncertain how to formulate their queries.
