Ruby: The Future

• By far, the biggest knocks on Ruby have been its relative sluggishness and some limitations with encoding formats, specifically poor support for Unicode beyond UTF-8

• Ruby 2.0 will include a new virtual machine, YARV, which is supposed to speed Ruby up significantly

• Ruby 2.0 will also play nice with Unicode
